"Leise rieselt der Schnee" is a well-known German Christmas carol, which was originally called "Weihnachtsgruß". It was composed and poetized in 1895 by the Protestant pastor Eduard Ebel. The loving arrangement of this piece makes enchanted, beautiful winter landscapes appear before the mind's eye. Thus it puts the relaxed listener in a contemplative, pre-Christmas mood. The piece begins very quietly with piano and flute and increases towards the end to a large work with orchestra, choir and solo tenor.
